Using Optimized URL for Website Search Engine Optimization

Search Engine Optimization or SEO is most likely not a new concept for most webmasters or website/business owners online. But for the benefit of those who have only come across this idea now, SEO in its most practical sense means optimizing the potential of a website to be found online or by search engines. There are various ways to optimize a website. One of the methods used include submitting the site's information or at least the URL to web directories. This increases the chances of the site to be found online by search engines or by people searching within the directory itself. Most probably do not bother with URLs or website addresses (this is what comes after http://www. and before .com etc.) but these are also important. Your website's URL can actually be optimized for SEO. How is this done? Let's talk about it part by part.

The first part should be finding out what search engines look for. The answer is keywords. If your website URL matches a keyword or a phrase, then it is chosen among sites to be displayed during web searches. Talking about web searches, these are searches performed by real people behind their computers. They enter a keyword or phrase associated with the information they need to know. This brings us to part two. The second part is about the keywords being searched for. While many utilize keyword finding tools such as software and websites, the most practical way to research keywords is through the search bar itself. Typing in a word or words followed by a space lists down other terms which are often being searched. This gives you an effective and free option to find out if you're website's URL falls under any of the most searched terms. If it is, then it is already optimized. There is however an issue with the keywords which come up and it is about competition. Very common keywords have probably been used in hundreds or maybe even thousands of website URLs whether SEO was applied on the site or not. This translates to a decreased exposure for your site against competitors in a given keyword or keywords. This can be resolved by submitting your website's details or URL to a directory. Doing so will help increase its visibility to search engines online.

Now aside from optimizing the main website's URL, stand alone pages within the website itself must also be enhanced for SEO. Long and random URL extensions with jumbled letters and numbers look untidy and unprofessional. URLs with actual words on the other hand are neater and depict professionalism. If the keywords used in the URL for the sites' pages are commonly searched terms, then the page will be highly considered by search engines. While most services automatically make suggestions for URL extension names based on the title or content of the page, you can still customize this based on keywords that are relevant to the page. Be careful about URLs that are irrelevant to the topic of the site or page because these are marked as spam by search engine robots. Spamming sites are penalized by search engines.

When the URL of your site and its pages are optimized, you can continue optimizing it by submitting the website's address along with important information through website directories. With these additional information, submit your site to experience the differences.
